rejected tax return

I e-filed a return and am getting a rejection code "IND-031-04", the primary taxpayer's AGI or self-selected PIN from last year does not match IRS records. My father was the primary taxpayer and filed a joint return last year, but he passed away in March. So I am filing a joint return for my mother this year. The AGI from last years return is correct and is the same for both of them. When signing this years return, Turbo Tax only asks for my mothers PIN and driver's license info. When Turbo Tax analyzes the return, it says there are no incorrect entries. I have gone through the entries again and there is a window that asks if my mother filed a 2018 tax return last year. I checked the yes box, resubmitted the return, and got rejected again, same code. Should I be checking the box that says my mother DID NOT file a return last year, since she was not the primary taxpayer, therefore the IRS will enter "0" for her 2018 AGI. I am assuming the return is getting rejected because my fathers PIN is not asked for since he is deceased. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for your loss.

You are correct that if your parents filed as Married Filing Jointly in 2018, their AGI's are the same for both of them.

Be sure that your father is still shown in the MY INFO section; you just need to indicate that he is deceased and the date.

They are Married Filing Jointly for 2019 also.
