Will Turbo Tax update the software to show taxes are not due now until July 15, 2020?

At this point, we don't know.

The Treasury announced, at the direction of the President, that the federal tax deadline is extended to July 15, 2020.

Taxpayers getting a refund are encouraged to file their taxes now as the IRS expects to continue to process refunds as normal. TurboTax is open and ready to help you easily and accurately file your taxes.

Federal tax payments have also been deferred, interest free and penalty free, for 90 days, until July 15. Individuals and self-employed taxpayers can defer up to $1 million for tax year 2019 federal tax payments. This deferment also applies to tax year 2020 estimated tax payments previously due on April, 15, 2020. Corporations can defer up to $10 million in federal payments.

Check with your state to see if their deadline has changed.

Thanks for the reply earlier RobertG. You mentioned that TurboTax may not update their software to the new extended federal tax deadline July 15, 2020.

Is there a way to work around the preset date of April 15, 2020 or should I, simply, wait to e-file after 4/15/2020 to select new date?

Thanks, CatinaT1, but your link does not tell me how to change the preset date 4/15/2020 in TurboTax. I haven’t filed yet, just entered data. Somehow, the updates don’t change the date to 7/15/2020. Any more ideas?

The TurboTax software has not yet been changed to reflect the new dates that were just announced 4 days ago. Until the IRS has changed the dates in their systems to accept a payment date after April 15 and on or before July 15 TurboTax cannot change the software dates.

If you want to e-file your 2019 tax return now you will have to change your payment method to pay by check instead of direct debit. Then you can either print and mail the payment voucher with your payment before July 15 or you can go to the IRS payment website to pay the federal taxes owed - https://www.irs.gov/payments

The IRS website will only accept a payment date 30 days from the current date so you would have to wait until mid June if you wanted to pay on July 15.
