Yes - hyphens count as characters. Enter the policy number without hyphens.

If hyphens count as characters and you have to enter the last 15 characters, why wouldn't you include hyphens?

The hyphens don't change the numbers on your policy. The hyphens break up the policy number for their internal use. You just need the numbers.

I'm sorry but your answer is confusing. The directions are to enter last 15 characters. So hyphens are not characters?

Hyphens do take up a character count place, they are just not necessary for your situation. We have found that depending on the state, sometimes there are a lot of hyphens in the count. If you only have 1 or 2, that would be fine. The point is the numbers on the policy for identifying you. Those internal use hyphens are just a nuisance to us and can keep you from being identified since everyone has hyphens, they are not unique to you.

Form 8962 instructions are to enter 15 characters. Turbo Tax won't even let me enter more. My Form 1095 policy number has 25 numbers and letters and one semicolon (no hyphens). Do I just enter the first 15 digits on form 8962, or what?

Enter the last 15 characters of your policy number and do not include the hyphens.

Hi my name is Jason Rosenthal. I recently paid 170$ to use this service only to be told that someone had already tried to use my social security number to file taxes this year and that my taxes would not be filed. This is an outrage that you guys will not refunded my 170$ after it clearly says you will not be charged until your taxes are filed and its the Covid 19 pandemic. I have not received my stimulus or unemployment this year and i absolutely can not afford to loose 170$.

The service was for you to prepare your return. It's unfortunate someone filed a return using your social security number.

Unfortunately your only option will be to paper file your return. I would also suggest you Complete IRS Form 14039, Identity Theft Affidavit and mail it along with your return.

Hi, I just want to ask if letters count as a character. So if my policy has letters and numbers in the last 15 spots, I should put both letters and numbers correct?

Yes, enter the last 15 charatcters of the policy. They can be letters or numbers.
