I've entered info from my 1099 misc but it is NOT business income. TT insists on putting it on Schedule 1 as business income which creates all sorts of problems. I am trying to manually change the info on Schedule 1 but TT won't let me. I've hit "override" but it doesn't do anything. I want the income to appear on line 8 of Schedule 1, not on line 3. How do I do this? I've seen answers to other people's questions about this, but none of the answers work for me.

@Daisy10 Did you import this 1099-MISC, or enter it manually? I'd recommend deleting the first 1099 you entered and starting from scratch. When you enter the document with income in Box #3, you should then be asked a series of questions that helps you properly identify the income. See the info I'm linking below.

Does a 1099-MISC mean that I'm self employed?

Thanks. I have answered the questions identifying the income -- it's an insurance premium reimbursement. The problem is that TT has entered the info on Schedule C as if it's business income and then is asking me the name of the business etc.

I think I've answered the questions TT asks in a way to indicate that it's not business income but TT makes it business income anyway. I had the same problem last year but I think I was able to manually change the info on the tax form itself. This year TT won't let me change it even when I hit override.

Maybe try entering the income under the "Other Income" section. There, you may be able to identify that it is reimbursement.

Hi. I ended up calling TT. They were very helpful. Turns out that in order to override, you have to click on the magnifying glass next to the field you want to change. That takes you to the worksheet for that form. You can them make your changes on the worksheet.

Of course, when TT is reviewing your return it tells you to undo your override, but that's easy to ignore.

Thanks for your help.

@Daisy10 You can, indeed, override your calculated values. However, you should know that overriding a value negates any TurboTax accuracy guarantee. Additionally, you may not be able to e-file a return that contains overrides. You'll likely have to mail your return that contains any override.

See the information I'm linking below.
