Yes, it does matter
and it can be very important to your tax return depending on the type of
distribution being reported.

It should not make a difference to your bottom line refund
or balance due, but certain types of distributions will add another form to
your tax return that would be tied to a single individual and not a joint tax
return.

You should go back to the 1099-R section of your return and
make the correction to show whose 1099-R is being reported.

When you go back to take a look at the Form 1099-R that you
entered, there is a question on the screen titled, “Tell Us Which 1099-R You Have” where you will designate This
Form 1099-R Belongs To next to your name and your spouse’s name. Choose the appropriate one and be sure to
answer the follow-up questions with that person in mind.

To go back to the 1099-R section of your return, use these
steps:

On the top row of the
TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax
locate the search box in the upper right corner)

This opens a box where you
can type in “1099-R” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click
the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)

The search results will
give you an option to “Jump to 1099-R”

Click on the blue “Jump
to 1099-R” link

 Click Edit beside any
1099-Rs that you have already entered to verify the ownership of the form and
make any necessary changes. Then Continue through all the follow-up
questions.
