My son did his taxes by purchasing an online version of TurboTax. He wanted me to review it for him, so he sent me the file with the ".tax2019" suffix. However, when I try to open it with my Home & Business version purchased at Costco, I keep getting the following error message:

The document "19JSB2Taxes.tax2019" has the wrong tax year or some other issue that prevents us from opening it. Can you help me open it?

Make sure you save the .tax2019 file to your computer before trying to open it. The default location for turbotax client files is: C:\Users\[your name]\Documents\TurboTax

Save the return and then try to open it from within the TurboTax program [File > Open]

If you are using a Mac, try uninstalling the TurboTax program and then reinstalling the program. Here's an article that will help: Remove and reinstall TurboTax for Mac

I use a Mac. The recommendation to un/reinstall worked for me. Thank you.
