    <description>&lt;P&gt;I ended up receiving another letter that explained where the rest of the money went. It took a little longer to get than the first offset letter.&amp;nbsp; I did contact the IRS before I got the new letter, and they explained what happened as well. That adjusted refund amount is correct though. Unless you can prove otherwise. My refund was applied to a debt three years ago.&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;You should get a letter from the IRS explaining what happened with your refund. You can also call the IRS to inquire.&amp;nbsp; Just plan/expect to be on the phone awhile as the hold times are long.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>

As Tax Expert &lt;a href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/743881"&gt;@DMarkM1&lt;/a&gt; explained, the IRS will send you a letter explaining why your refund was adjusted.&lt;/P&gt;

&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;

&lt;P&gt;A $0 refund suggests your refund was taken for an unpaid debt, such&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;

&lt;UL&gt;
 &lt;LI&gt;Past-due child support;&lt;/LI&gt;
 &lt;LI&gt;Federal agency non-tax debts;&lt;/LI&gt;
 &lt;LI&gt;State income tax obligations; or&lt;/LI&gt;
