My return was rejected 4 times with same problem. However I have a friend that works in a tax office and she filed my return with no problem....so apparently it's something with Turbo Tax. I've use Turbo for years and purchased the disk each year and also pay to file my state which I lost $19.99 this year because my federal was rejected. Now I can't get my money back.

It is possible that the IRS adjusted your AGI after you submitted it last year so your TurboTax amount will not match. That is why you may need to contact the IRS to figure it out. Usually they send you a notification of any changes however.

If you have verified your AGI as being correct here are few possible other reasons why you’re still getting an e-file reject.

If you:

Filed late last year after mid-November or your return was processed after that time—try entering 0.

Amended your return last year—make sure you’re using the AGI from your original return, not the amended one. (If you only have a 1040X form, it’s on line 1, column A).

Rounded your AGI to the nearest dollar—be sure to round up when it’s 50 cents or more and down when it’s 49 cents or less.

Filed with your spouse last year—you and your spouse have the same 2018 AGI. (Don’t split the AGI amount or enter 0 for one of you).

If you still are unable to e-file then you should consider filing by mail. Returns that are rejected for AGI issues when e-filed generally will be accepted when mailed.

This error seems to happen most often, but not only, when the taxpayer died during the tax year. All the answers here won't help. We are getting boiler plate responses. I copied the AGI directly from the 2018 IRS transcript and it still said my spouse's AGI didn't match. There's a glitch based on the number of these questions posted on this website. Not saying it's TT, just saying that all of us cannot be entering incorrect AGI info. After three attempts of manually entering the AGI and being rejected, I gave up and went to file by mail. It sucks because you have to attached paper copies of the W-2 and Form 1099-R. I usually just get electronic copies. Now I need paper copies. Grrrrr

If what you entered is correct and you continue to get a reject, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In this case, your only option would be to print and mail in your return.

Plus I also paid to efile my state return and the only suggestion Intuit has is that I paper file. What am I paying for?

In most cases the IRS will reject an e-filed tax return if one of the taxpayers on the tax return is deceased. Regardless of having the correct AGI on the tax return. In these cases the tax return can only be printed and mailed.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for printing a tax return for mailing - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/printing/help/how-do-i-print-and-mail-my-return-in-turbotax-online...

Using the TurboTax online editions there are no e-file fees, federal or state. The TurboTax account fees are for the use of the software to assist in completing a tax return. The fees are the same whether a tax return is e-filed or printed for mailing.

If the federal tax return is not e-filed, then the state tax return cannot be e-filed. This procedure was put in place several years ago to help prevent fraudulent state tax returns from being filed.

I had a similar problem. I assume your spouse died. This has been a problem with Turbotax since at least 2015 going by the community messages. I did as they suggested and got my transcript from the IRS and everything matches. There seems to be no way around it. This is just some problem that Turbotax has not seen fit to address. I have to mail mine in.

It is not a TurboTax problem. TurboTax does NOTHING with the AGI other than to forward the AGI that you provide to the IRS. All AGI rejects come from the IRS, not from TurboTax this TurboTax FAQ on how to find your AGI

https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3301618

If you filed late last year there is a good chance that the 2018 AGI never was entered into the e-file database. Try using 0 (zero) for the AGI.

If you filed an amended return use the AGI on the first filed tax return.

If it continues to reject then the AGI in the IRS database might be in error. Mail filing is the only option.
rboTax.

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on View adjusted gross income (AGI)

Or go to this IRS website for free federal tax return transcripts - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

If your tax return continues to be rejected with the 2018 AGI then enter a 0 (zero) for the AGI and e-file again.

If this is also rejected then you will have to print and mail the tax return.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for printing a tax return for mailing - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/printing/help/how-do-i-print-and-mail-my-return-in-turbotax-online...

Thank you. I will try entering zero on this particular return ... I do taxes for several people as well as mine through TurboTax software and have never had this error or rejection on the AGI. For the return it is getting rejected on, this is like the eighth year I’ve done the taxes for them in Turbo Tax and that has never happened before. Several others were successfully transmitted so I am not sure what is going on here.

Looks like its glitch in Turbotax.

Till 2017 all my joint efilings are success through CPA, when I switched to turbotax last year got this spouse AGI incorrect issue, downloaded IRS transcripts and confirmed AGI is correct but no luck, took multiple times live turbotax CPA help but no luck, finally ended up by sending returns in mail.

Now 2019 efiling also rejected with same AGI error. again downloaded 2018 IRS transcripts and confirmed AGI is correct. will try again. if issue not resolved than next year best to go with local CPA.
