It seems the federal return was the issue as it wanted me to get a personal identification number to file but when I went through the process it would not let me complete it. Very frustrating so I printed the returns and mailed them. Now another question - can I get my state fee $19.99 refunded as I filed by paper?

Getting error when I try to electronically file my state and federal return. "There is an update available for your version of Turbo Tax. Before you can file electronically, you'll need to get this update. To do this, go to Online menu and select Check for Updates."

"If you'd like to e-file your state return using Turbo Tax, it will need to be filed along with your federal return. You may also e-file your federal return now, then submit your state return later via Turbo Tax, by mail, or by visiting your state's tax website for alternative e-filing options."

I followed the instructions to update and the Turbo Tax came back saying I am current. I checked chats online and it seems there is a fix. I clicked a link and gave my information but have not seen an email or anything yet.

I suggest that you file your Federal return alone first, then go back to file the State.

It sounds like there is a problem with the State return that may require paper filing.

If you file the Federal return first, when you go back in to file the State, you may get a clear explanation of the problem.
