To retrieve your original AGI from your previous year's tax return you may do one of the following:

The IRS uses your prior year AGI to combat fraud.

You can find your 2018 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) by:

Looking at line 7 on page 2 of your 2018 Form 1040; or

You can request a transcript of your 2018 tax return from the IRS to ensure you have the right number. You can request your transcript online at the following link: Get Transcript

Check these items as well to ensure you have the correct number. If you:

Filed late last year after mid-November or your return was processed after that time—try entering 0.

Amended your return last year—make sure you’re using the AGI from your original return, not the amended one. (If you only have a 1040X form, it’s on line 1, column A).

Rounded your AGI to the nearest dollar—be sure to round up when it’s 50 cents or more and down when it’s 49 cents or less.

Filed with your spouse last year—you and your spouse have the same 2018 AGI. (Don’t split the AGI amount or enter 0 for one of you).

Unfortunately, without the correct number, your only option would be to print and mail in your return.

To enter your 2018 AGI while in TurboTax follow these steps:

Select File from the left hand side of your screen,

Complete Step 1 and 2 if you haven’t already done so, then go to Step 3.

When getting to the Let’s get ready to e-file screen after selecting Step 3, select I want to e-file before you continue.

Follow the online instructions. When prompted, put in your exact 2018 AGI.

Continue through the screens until you’ve transmitted your return.

"... Assuming the two of you are filing together for the first time in 2019... you'll want to enter the adjusted gross income (AGI) from each spouse's originally filed 2018 return.

Don't combine your 2018 AGIs into a single figure, as this is guaranteed to cause a rejection. We'll ask for both of your 2018 AGI amounts when you get to the AGI input screen.

It doesn't matter if a spouse filed jointly in 2018 with somebody else. Use the AGI—no matter what the filing status was or who earned the income—from the return filed by that person in 2018.

If you and/or your spouse didn’t file last year and you’re in TurboTax, just tell us you didn’t file last year when we ask you. If you’ve already entered a number for your AGI, manually enter 0 instead." Ref: Turbotax help page Whose AGI should newlyweds use?

Well...this is frustrating. My wife and I filed jointly in 2018. So...our 2018 AGI would be the same. My wife passed away in 2019, but I am filing jointly. I e-filed yesterday and....it was rejected because my wife's 2018 AGI is wrong. I used TurboTax both years so how is the AGI possibly wrong? Also, there is only *one* AGI for couple using married filing jointly. I looked at Line 7 of last year's 1040 and it matches what was rejected. What is going on?? I have used TurboTax for 10+ years and have never had this problem.

I tried getting the AGI for my late wife online from the IRS but couldn't because she doesn't have any active loans/financial interests. So I requested it be mailed. I received it in the mail rather quickly and.....it matched what my return stated and what TurboTax stated so it didn't help. I also tried a trick I saw online about entering 0 for her AGI.....that didn't work either. So at this point I will have to mail in my state and local returns which stinks. With that said, for the first time in a long time I owe money so I am not really concerned about the turnaround time this year.
