I have a 1099-R from Capital Group (American Funds) that does not have an EIN on the front or back of the form. Any clues why?

Atop the address, the entity writes "PAYER'S name, address, city or town, state or province, country, ZIP or foreign postal code and telephone number". But there is no EIN listed there, nor anywhere else on the form. Is this an oversight? I cannot proceed without knowing what it is.

The box labeled Payer's TIN is the EIN.

I have a new computer now and am trying to get used to it, including signing back in to my project. also, my EIN is the last four digits of my SSN. Do I put the other numbers in or just the "XXX-XX' symbols?

Meanwhile, I am trying to re-sign into the project. I may have to start all over again.,..

You would put your social in.If needed,it may already be assigned to you. Most financial institutions now 'mask' your information in the xxx-xx-1234 manner.

The IRS Form 1099-R will have a box for the Payer's TIN to be entered. What form are you looking at?

I know what you mean, and I found it. It is right below Box 7 Distribution Code. It is a different type of 1099-R, so it was difficult to find the TIN.

Yes, the payer's TIN is the federal tax number. The correct format for the number is XX-XXXXXXX.

Did you ever get this EIN? I am dealing with this situation right now and my return keeps rejecting with every EIN number I enter! I guess I can't find the one that matches the IRS database and the 1099 didn't have one listed.

I have one of these 1099-B's for American Funds that has no "Payer's ITN" and no box 7 to look below for the EIN information. Are there any other suggestions on how to get the number for Full Service filing a return?

I was able to get the return accepted by changing the name of the payer to CAPITAL BANK AND TRUST CO and using EIN 95-6817943. I can't remember off the top of my head why I used this payer name. I must have googled and found that they were an affiliate? Or maybe that name was also listed on the 1099-R? I remember trying like 8 different things and this was the one to finally get accepted. Hi all- If you are looking at your 1099-DIV, you need to look at each individual fund listed on that form. It will say something like Fund: Washington Mutual. Follow those numbers until you get to Section 4- Federal Income tax withheld. Under each individual fund, you will see the fund's FEIN. It will be labeled as PAYER's TIN, and will be different from each Fund. So basically, you're not looking for American Funds' FEIN, you are looking for each individual Fund's FEIN. Hope this helps!
