1099 Misc

I received a check dated 12/17/18, deposited it into my bank account on 1/3/19.

The organization sent me a 1099 for 2019 for the amount of the check.

Should this amount really be 2019? or should it have been for 2018?

You should get this corrected. This is income that occurred in 2018.

Thank you, that's what I thought and said to the organization but they keep telling me because I cashed it on 1/3/19 it goes on a 2019 - 1099 form.
