At the File stage of my return, I am being prompted to upgrade to deluxe to file the 1040 form. I did the entire return with the free version and now all 3 returns (Federal, PA state and NJ state) are showing $40, so $120 total. How did upgrading to deluxe for $40 mean that the state returns would also go from free to $40??

Here are the steps to view your fees, while in TurboTax follow these steps:

Select My TurboTax in the top-left corner,

Select My Tax Timeline,

Scroll to the bottom and select Some things you can do,

Select Add a state (you will not actually add a state, this is just a way to get you back into the return without amending it),

Select View order summary under We can also help you with to see a breakdown of fees.

Review your fees to find out why you're being charged. Then, follow the directions to remove any unwanted charge:

You can see what you are being charged for. Click on Tax Tools from the Menu on the left side in your return. Click Tools then My Fees. This link will provide more information on the Refund Processing Fee. https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3301372 How do I review my fees in TurboTax Online? https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/4202093
