FORM 1040 and FORM 1040SR

There seems to be a considerable amount of confusion and worry regarding the new Form 1040SR. There is no need to worry if your return is on a Form 1040SR this year.

Compare the Form 1040 and the Form 1040SR with each other. The lines are the same. The calculations will be done exactly the same way. The difference is the 1040SR has larger print and a different background color. There is no effect whatsoever on your tax due or refund amount.

Form 1040 and Form 1040SR are identical except that 1040SR has bigger print for folks 65 or older.

A 1040 is the tax return form you prepare here to send to the IRS. If you start entering data in this software you are preparing a Form 1040. Please look at it so you will know what you are sending to the IRS:

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

When you enter all you income Turbo Tax fills out the 1040 or 1050SR depending on you age. When you print it will print on the 1040SR even if you see only the 1040 on the screen. You automatically get the 1040SR if you or your spouse is 65 or older. In the Desktop program you can tell it which one to print.

You answer all the questions that Turbo Tax asks and they automatically fill out and file the 1040SR if you or your spouse qualify per your ages. So, yes, it's included.
