It’s telling this on my state return but won’t let me fix it what should I do “ Hidden Federal Transfer Wks: Taxpayer's occupation has too many characters.”

The occupation that you listed at the beginning of the federal return has too many characters for your state's e-file rules.

Try this to fix it:

Sign in to your account and click Fix my return.
Once you are in the return, open the left side menu, and select My Info.
Click Edit to the right of your name.
You will see Occupation on the fourth line. Shorten what you have there. You can use abbreviations or make it more general. For example, change "Property insurance claims adjuster" to "Claims adjuster" or "Senior customer service representative" to "Sr. customer service rep."
Once that is corrected, click State on the left side menu.
Continue and let the program check your state return.
Continue thru the File section and re-submit your return.

Help! I can't seem to fix the problem- too many characters in my initial. It's not fixable on my W2s. Any suggestions?

Too many characters in your initial what? Or did you mean "initials" as in your name?

Are you referring to your name on the W-2? Since we cannot see your tax return, help us understand your situation. If the problem is your name, give us a John Doe version of your name (if you give your real name the moderators will delete it as personal information). Or perhaps better: (first name) (middle initial) (last name) in a way that reflects your actual name on the W-2 - if that is the problem.

First. thanks for your response! I'm oh so close to filing.

When I go to submit my Oregon State Taxes the Oregon Information Sheet shows my husband's and my middle initial including a period "." and states it has too many characters, e.g "B."

I am trying to find where the "B." is pulling from as it's not editable on that sheet.
