So did your 2017 return reject? Because the 2016 AGI was wrong? You have to print and mail it now. You don't need the prior year AGI to Mail. That's only to efile.

then what happened last year for your 2018 return? Did it go through and get Accepted? You would have had to use 0 for the AGI since 2017 never got filed.

My bad i'm a bit confused by your questions, I barely know anything about taxes, so this is my situation I efiled for 2017 back in 2018 and it got rejected because of the AGI was wrong on the turbotax form (idk why since I downloaded my W-2 with the code) I wasn't able to fix the Efile because I checked on it too late, so realized I had to do it through mail, I researched how long could I wait before I had to file for my 2017 taxes and found that they give you 3 years to file it so here I'm 2020 trying to do it last minute.

Yes apparently I was able to file 2018 and just finished filing for 2019 without filing 2017 no problem

The only thing I'm trying to figure out is how do I do this, do I just fill a 1040EZ form with the correct information and attach my 2017 W-2 and send it to the IRS? or...

Yes you just mail it in now. You might be able to print it out from Turbo Tax. You have 3 years to claim a refund. But if you have a tax due you had to pay it by April 15, 2018.

Or if it's simple you can fill it out again by hand.

Here are some blank forms & instructions for 2017

1040 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040--2017.pdf

Instructions https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040gi--2017.pdf

1040A https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040a--2017.pdf

Instructions https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040a--2017.pdf

1040EZ https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040ez--2017.pdf

Instructions https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040ez--2017.pdf

2017 Tax Tables https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040tt--2017.pdf

Publication 17 Tax Guide for 2017 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/p17--2017.pdf

Don’t forget your state. And you will have to print and mail your returns. So be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them. You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places. Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

By the way, the AGI you need is not on your W2. You have to use the AGI from the Prior Year Tax Return. So you needed to use the AGI from your 2016 return. If you didn't file a 2016 return you should have used 0 for 2017.

Awsome thanks for the information, I don't file state since I live in Florida, so pretty straight forward Fill out a 1040EZ attach one 2017 W-2 copy send it in the mail and wait for refund.

I reviewED the 1040EZ form it doesn't ask for 2016 AGI? Im I missing something I did remember I had to go into my IRS account and get a transcript for my 2016 W-2 when my 2017 got rejected.

Well it's too late to worry about the AGI now. AGI is only needed to efile. To verify that's its you when you efile. Don't need it to print and mail a return. So if your current year return rejects in the future for wrong AGI just print and mail it.

Going back to year 2017 I didn’t have a spouse. Just now noticed my earnings were put in both boxes, showing I made double the amount I did. Is there any way to fix this?

@

bdodle000

Generally, you must file an amended return within three years from the date you filed your original return or within two years from the date you paid any tax due, whichever is later.

2017 may be out of scope for filing an amended return depending on your particular situation.

However, if you have the same situation in all the years mentioned there is an option to file an Amended return, form 1040X Free through TurboTax if needed.
