It maybe the EIN number that is on your W-2, but that does not mean it is what the IRS has in their data base. Your employer or their payroll service could have made an error in their entry. Please review all of the information below.

This type of rejection occurs when the Employer Identification Number (EIN) differs from what the IRS has in its database. To correct this:

Open your return in TurboTax.

In the search box type: W-2,
click on Jump to W-2,
On the W-2 summary screen, click Edit next to the W-2 on the return,
Make sure the EIN in Box b exactly matches what's on your W-2 form. If not, make the correction,
Make sure the info in the Employer's Name and Address fields match your paper W-2. If not, make the correction.

Entering EIN from 1099-R the Box would not let the number to be entered correctly. Number in 727796-001.

When trying to enter Box interfered (72-7796001). Please correct software.

EIN numbers are 9 digits in length and are shown on the tax forms in the following format xx-xxxxxxx. The number in your question does follow the correct EIN format.

When you enter the EIN do not enter the "-". Just enter the number without the "-".

Do you need an EIN for a W-2? Your employer’s Employer Identification Number (EIN) can be found in box b of your W-2. If you worked for the same employer last year, the EIN would have been on last year’s W-2.

Sometimes the EIN is located on your weekly paystub.

You can go the employer’s human resources and ask for their EIN but don’t be surprised if they will not tell you. That would be like asking someone what their Social Security number is.

If TurboTax is partnering with your employer and is allowed to download their W-2’s, your employer would be listed here.

To add or edit a W2, follow these steps:

Sign into your TurboTax account
From your federal return
Click on Wages & Income
Click Review/Edit
Next to Job (W-2), click Edit/Add

You can also type W2 in the Search field (next to the magnifying glass in the upper right corner) and then click jump to in the search results.

If you've already entered a W-2, select Edit for the W-2 you want to correct, or the Add another W-2 button, if you need to enter an additional W-2.

Can you clarify what screen you're looking at in TurboTax or what form you are trying to correct?
