I was wondering if anyone could help me. My husband and I usually file separately because of my student loans. He said this year he has to claim our son we had in June because of the HSA health plan we are On. So would I mark I don’t have any kids? Or how would that work? I’ve never had to worry about this and I don’t know what to do..

Where asked if you have any dependents, just answer NO.

On your tax return you do not add your son as a dependent if are going to continue to file as Married Filing Separately and your spouse is claiming the child on his tax return.
