In 2018 Tax year I completed the electronic filing exactly as the Turbo Tax software instructed. It was accepted by Oregon Revenue Service on Jan 28, 2019. However, instead of getting a timely refund, I received a letter dated February 21, 2019 from the ORS stating they did not have a record of my Form 1099-R, which is the military retirement equivalent of a W-2. I had to mail them the 1099_R, which more or less caused me to lose the cost of electronic filing. Because of this Turbo Tax software error, it would have been cheaper and faster if I had just mailed my Oregon return, instead of electronically filing it with your software.

I'm writing to request you correct this problem in the 2019 tax year, so that the Oregon Dept of Revenue gets the 1099-R in the electronic filing, and does not have to slow the whole process by requesting a 1099-R through the mail, well after the return has been electronically filed and accepted. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Please respond to me, when you are able.

Frank Cooper

If a Form 1099-R is entered in the Federal section of the program that tax data flow directly to the state tax program.

Look at the Form 1040 Line 4a and 4b. Is the amount from Form 1099-R box 1 shown on Line 4a of the 1040? Is the amount from Form 1099-R box 2a shown on Line 4b of the 1040? Is there a Form 1099-R worksheet included with your tax return?

If no amounts are entered in 4a or 4b of the 1040 then the Form 1099-R was not entered by the user in the TurboTax program.

Your message indicates that you are using the TurboTax Deluxe desktop edition for a Windows based personal computer.

Look at the PDF of the 2018 tax return you saved. Or start the 2018 tax program on your computer. Continue the tax return. Click on Forms in the upper right of the program screen. Review both the federal and state tax return worksheets and income tax returns.

To the best of my knowledge there have been no instances reported of tax data from a Form 1099-R not being transferred from the Federal tax return to the Oregon state tax return. If this was a systemic problem, thousands of complaints would have arisen from users of the Oregon state tax program after filing.

"the ORS stating they did not have a record of my Form 1099-R, which is the military retirement equivalent of a W-2. I had to mail them the 1099_R,"

This happens with CA quite often, they don't have record of a W2 or 1099R in their records and request for the tax payer to send it to them....this has nothing to do with TurboTax or what youve done, its an issue between ORS and where they get their 1099R reporting from.
