Is it possible to import into turbotax (any version) different tax line items from a spreadsheet or other file format? For example, if I record all my business income and medical expenses in Excel can I create 1 column with the amounts and 1 column with the Turbotax reference line item (or Federal tax return form/line item) so as to import the data?

I know Turbotax can import from brokers but I want to create a file myself that can import into Turbotax. This is not to import the previous year taxes but current year tax information.

Thanks.

And only the Desktop CD/Download program can import .txf files. TurboTax CD/Download software (except TurboTax Business) can import from any program that creates .txf files, such as Quicken or Quicken Rental Property Manager.

You can import directly from Quicken or from a .txf File.

my bank sent me excel spread sheet for 2022 transactions--TT does not have that bank on direct access--I was told by them most tax software accepts uploading of reported (to IRS) data from their excel summary...how do I do that with TT? thank you

Yes, a csv file can be uploaded to the online program. An excel spreadsheet can be a csv or become one. Some people make a spreadsheet and upload it as a 1099-B in the online program for brokerage transactions.

See how to import many 1099 forms. A bank should only have interest and it would be reported on an 1099-int, which can also be typed in manually.

Once you upload the spreadsheet, it will ask you where it should go.

If you are using the desktop, follow these steps outlined by JoeFM here.

Created a .csv file with all transactions using the format shown at Easytxf.

Used Easytxf to convert the .csv file into .txf file.

Import .txf file into Turbotax Desktop: File / Import / From Accounting Software / Other Financial Software (TXF) file / Continue / Choose a File to Import / Import now.

A 1099-B with all Crypto transactions is now created. This entry can now be edited to include the account details. Each transaction can be edited as well.

Saw your post / response. For creating a .cvs file for importing Schedule D Capital Gains and Loss data;

1. What are the header titles and their order

2. Is a separate sheet / file needed for short-term vs long term transactions or will TT automatically place them based on the dates

3. Where is the documentation located for creating these types of .cvs files for importing into TT

Thanks in advance,

Dan C
