topic I filed 2018 returns. 2018 (Fed & State (Md)) were significantly (many times higher) than 2017. Should I have someone look at this? Does TurboTax review for a fee? in Get your taxes done using TurboTax

No, you cannot pay TurboTax to review your return. That is not a service that is offered by TurboTax. TurboTax offers TurboTax Live for online returns prepared using TT's online software, but you need to choose that when you are preparing your tax return, not after the fact.

Perhaps you should find a local paid tax professional to go over your returns with you.

For those who itemized deductions on their 2017 federal tax return but find themselves taking the standard deduction in 2018 due to the changes in the tax code, Maryland taxes are likely to be higher in 2018 than in 2017 because Maryland requires those who use the standard deduction on their federal tax return to also use the standard deduction on their Maryland tax return. Those who were able to deduct a substantial amount of state and local taxes on their 2017 tax return might find that their 2018 state and local taxes being subject to the new $10,000 limit on Schedule A will result in a substantially lower amount of 2018 itemized deductions, triggering TurboTax to use the higher standard deduction.

In some cases it might make sense to itemize deductions on the federal tax tax return even though the deduction will be lower than the standard deduction, allowing itemizing deductions on the Maryland tax return. However, that's probably unlikely if you owe federal taxes when using the higher standard deduction.
