Note: Every year, before mid-October, print a copy of your current year tax return and save it as a tax file and pdf, too. That way you will have it when you need it for school, a loan, next year’s tax return, etc. without going through a lot of aggravation (and expense) to get it.

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

You can also get free transcripts of your federal return from the IRS - http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created. TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

I need copies of my 2017 and 2018 taxes in order to refinance my home. Both years were done through turbo tax. How do I get copies through this turbo tax system

How do I access a prior year return?

You’ll need to register first if you don’t already have access to your prior year returns under Your tax returns & documents as you sign in to TurboTax.

Before starting, make sure you’re using the same TurboTax account (with the same username) as previous years.

To access:

Choose TurboTax Free Edition when starting if you haven't already done so.
Follow the screens and provide some personal info.
When you’ve reached the Personal info summary screen, select Continue.
Then, select File in the left-hand menu (this is just a step in order to register, you won’t actually be filing).
Continue until you get to Review your order and select Start.
Select View payment options.
Then continue until you get to the registration screen.
Enter your info and select Register, then Continue.
Go to Tax Home in the left-hand menu.
Under Your tax returns & documents, go to Download/print return (PDF) (select Show if not visible).

@an1469 Your post is unclear. Do you need to prepare a late 2017 return or are you looking for a copy of the 2017 return that you prepared using online TT?

A transcript contains most line items from your return and can be used if you need last year's AGI or other numbers from a previously-filed return. Here's what a transcript looks like. To order, go to the IRS Get Transcript page and choose an option: online (same-day) or by mail (5–10 days).

For a fee of $43 you can get a complete federal tax return from the IRS by completing Form 4506 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf
