topic 2017 taxes in Get your taxes done using TurboTax

So I had to file for an extension to finish these taxes. After the extension, I determined that I needed to set up a payment plan with the IRS to pay off my taxes. I Requested from the IRS to see what my remaining balance was recently, and they have no documentation or idea why I'm making the payments. I thought I couldn't file my taxes until they were paid in full. How can I get my 2017 taxes filed now? Everything has been completed this entire time, just not submitted apparently.

Good grief--you really misunderstood. You should have filed your 2017 tax return. You were not supposed to wait until your 2017 tax due was paid in full. You need to file now and print, sign and mail it ASAP. Depending on how much you have paid, you may be getting a bill for late filing and interest owed.

To finish a prior year return started in TT online:https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2559403-how-do-i-finish-a-prior-year-return-that-i-started-in-turb

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS and/or your state received the return.
