How does your product not have this functionality? You should probably hire better product managers. Oh but if you want your previous years AGI you need to pay TurboTax for it! So I am now unable to e-file unless I pay TurboTax 3 times!?!?!?!

1. I paid for the TurboTax e-file service last year.
2. We have to pay for the E-file service this year on my wife’s account. Her taxes are more complicated.
3. I have to pay TurboTax to get my AGI from last year (that I already paid for) to complete the e-file on my wife’s account which she is already paying for...

Feels like I’m being extorted by TerribleTax. If you want money and to not leave as bad of a taste in your customers mouths. Why not create a feature with a fee to merge the accounts?

How to consolidate TurboTax accounts once married and filing jointly?

I got married in 2015. Both my husband & I have used TurboTax in years previous, so we both have accounts and tax history here. He has standard W2 stuff, while I use the Home & Business version because I run my own business and have 1099 income. We plan on filing jointly this year.

My question is two-fold:
1) Can we consolidate accounts without losing either of our filing histories on TurboTax? If so, how?
2) Whose account should we file under? I assume mine, since I still need the Home & Business version.

1) No. There is no way to consolidate Turbotax accounts.
2) You can import information from one prior return but you will have to manually enter any necessary information from the other person's prior return. The logical thing to do is to use the more complicated account so that prior data will transfer and then manually enter the other.

I was frustrated by this at first, too. But if you’re only needing your spouses prior year AGI, you can request an online copy of their transcript from the IRS website and use that. It’s easy.

What a shame this still isn't resolved for 2018....this limited software still requires one partner to forgo their identity, tax history, etc. This is a significant product improvement opportunity that would allow couples to enter/view/track income, deductions, etc. separately while still filing as married. Furthermore, this software doesn't support easy testing/toggling of various filing options such as filing separately, jointly, or even as singles (in order to see the net tax benefit or tax penalty for legal union). Guess I'll be closing my Intuit account this week and hiring an accountant.
