topic Why did Turbo Tax combine my husband and my SS taxes together which then calculated an excess of SS? in Get your taxes done using TurboTax

My husband and I only had 1 employer each for 2015. For some reason, there was an entry on line 71 which is the difference over our combined SS taxes. According to the calculations neither of us individually had an excess of SS withholdings.

We have now received a letter from the IRS stating that we owe that money back. I need to know why and how this error was calculated on our returns.

I received a letter from IRS saying that I owe $4,240 for excess social security tax withheld that they are disallowing. There was another thread that surprisingly was closed by TT where several people has the issue with their 2015 tax return. I have been filing using TT since the late 90s so it is unlikely that I will make a mistake. I believe this is a serious flaw in the 2015 TT software wherein they guarantee 100% accuracy. If Intuit continue to deny that there's an issue with the 2015 TT filing then I have no choice but to seek legal help.
