I'd like to know if my deductions would make it worthwhile to use form 1040 and Schedule A - or should I stay with form 1040A?

If you are using a CD/Download product, you can just go through the Deductions and credits section of the Federal Taxes Tab, and TurboTax will compute whether the Standard Deduction or Itemized Deductions is better for you. If you do this in TurboTax Online, you'll be prompted to upgrade, and the only way to go back to a simpler version is to clear and start over.

You would need to have more than $6300 in deductions if you are a single taxpayer in order to itemize.

See the FAQ below to find the Standard Deduction for each filing status.
