In the filing steps, you will reach a screen titled E-Filing - Prior Year Information. If you have last year's tax return, choose that option. Next, enter the AGI from that return, or enter the PIN you used to file last year.

If you have never filed a federal tax return, or if you did not file a return last year, choose I am a first-time filer or I did NOT file a 2016 tax return on the Prior Year Information screen.

Now, The best place to get this number is from your originally-filed 2016 federal tax return.

Even if you amended it later, you must use the AGI from the 2016 return you originally filed, even if it's way off.

You won’t find last year’s AGI on:

Your W-2 or 1099 form. (Although these forms may show your total income for the year, they don't include all the information needed to calculate your AGI.)

The internet (including TurboTax AnswerXchange).

Unemployment papers.

Any official-looking document other than your 2016 tax return or an official IRS copy or transcript.

Also, if you used Turbo Tax last year, please be sure you are using the same EXACT username/account you used last year to file. If you need help ensuring you are in the right account, please use this link for further assistance.

You can try the Account Recovery tool at the link below but leave the data field blank. Instead, use the tiny blue link there that says "Try Something Else", and it will look you up by SSN and other parameters.

NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop. Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below. You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session.

https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery/
