topic If marketplace insurance overlaps with employer provided health insurance which covers the full 12 months, does the 1095-A information need to be entered in TurboTax? in Get your taxes done using TurboTax

My daughter was charged for marketplace premiums for the first few months of 2016 before the policy was terminated and received the 1095-A form for the tax year. Her current employer provided health insurance for the full 12 months and provided the 1095-C form. If she enters the 1095-A information, TurboTax wants her to calculate her premium tax credit which appears to increase her refund beyond what she would probably be entitled to.

Hypothetically, if she did not receive Advance credit (column C of the 1095-A), she doesn't need to enter the 1095-A in TurboTax (don't say she had Marketplace insurance).

However, that will likely cause the IRS to send her a notice about her 1095-A and Form 8962 because they think she qualifies for the credit.

So I would probably enter the 1095-A, but enter zero for the amount in column B. TurboTax will flag that as an error, so she would probably need to file by mail.
