I filed with TurboTax and the fee was to be $40 but at checkout I was charged $80. What happened with the free?

TurboTax Free Edition is for filers that use a simple 1040 with no additional schedules and is free as long as you don't select any add-ons or upgrades. You can Review your fees to see a breakdown of what you have been charged for. Please see the below FAQ for additional information:

Same thing just happened to me! It was fine until the very end when I was finalizing everything. All of sudden my refund was $40 less then it should’ve been, seeing as I didn’t have to file in both states.

If you selected to have your fees deducted from your refund, there is an additional fee charged for this.

Remove PLUS Help & Support
Remove Pay With Your Refund
Remove Premium Services Benefits
Remove MAX Defend & Restore
Remove a state
Clear and start over to remove all fees and start from scratch.
