Why is Premier wanting to charge me for one state filing when I thought it said 1 free state filing?

I thought you get one free state filing with Premier?

The included state is for the state software, not for efi...

The included state is for the state software, not for efiling. Some desktop products include a state program download to prepare a state return. But there is a 19.99 state efile fee (except free for New York state) if one chooses to efile the state return. The fee usually changes to 24.99 in March.

There is no fee to print and mail the state returns.

Or did Premier try to charge you for the included state program download?

If you didn't buy Turbotax from TurboTax.com, check your packaging to make sure one free state download is included. You're able to buy TurboTax from retailers with or without the free state.

If the packaging includes a free state download, perhaps you didn't download the state. There's 2 ways to download your TurboTax State program.

Through your TurboTax CD/Download software:

This works for state programs you purchased as well as the free state download that comes with certain software packages:

With your return open in TurboTax, choose Download State from the Online menu near the top.
Save your return when prompted.
Follow the onscreen instructions to purchase (if necessary), download, and install your state.
Repeat for additional state programs. When you finish with your federal return and move on to the State tab, you'll see the state(s) you installed.

From your TurboTax Account:

Follow the directions in this article to download and install the software you purchased at TurboTax.com. After installing the state program, you'll see the state(s) on the State tab when you open your return in TurboTax.
