When processing your tax return, the IRS will generally match the the first 4 letters of your last name and your Date of Birth with what the Social Security Administration has on file for you.

If the IRS rejects the return you can just make the correction and then re-submit it . If it is accepted you would not need to do anything further, you will be fine. Just be sure the spelling is correct on next year's tax return.
