You can follow the steps here below to get to the section...

You can follow the steps here below to get to the section you will need for entering your W-2.

Log into your return by clicking orange Take me to my return button

Type W-2 in the Search box in the top right

Click the jump to W-2 link in the search results.

This will then take you to a screen where you can click on Whose W-2 do you want to work on? and you choose Work on xxx's W-2 now

Any SSA-1099 form, regardless of the suffix, gets entered the same way:

Sign into your TurboTax account, see your Tax Timeline, and click the orange Take me to my return button

Using the Search box in the upper right corner of the screen, type SSA-1099 and then click on Jump to SSA-1099, which is the first item in the search results.

Select Yes, let's work on Social Security benefits and click Continue.

Check the first box, Form SSA-1099.

Enter the amounts for yourself and your jointly-filing spouse, if they received an SSA-1099 also.

SSA-1099s for your children and other dependents are not to be reported on your return. They should report it on their own return, but only if they're required to file a return for some other reason (this is uncommon).

Then click Continue.

TurboTax will automatically calculate what portion, if any, of your Social Security benefits are taxable.

Hope this helps!

Previously, my husband and I always used manual tax returns for many years by handwriting on the forms and then filed by mail. We are retired and have no W-2's. This time we use TurboTax Premier for the first time because we sold our vacation home and do not know how to file. We were told the second home or vacation home should be reported as capital gains. Basically, we have 1099's for social security income, for retirement income, and IRA'S RMD to report. We did not itemize for many years.

As I just stated in previous message, my husband and I are long retired and do not have W-2's. Does TurboTax still require us to provide W-2's ?

No you are not required to enter W-2's. When you go to Federal >Wages and Income

it will say something like "Let's start with your W-2" but read the whole screen---one of your choices is "I don't have any W-2's" --click that and move on to add the other forms of income you received.
