If your direct deposit was bounced back for any reason, it can take 4-8 weeks to get a physical check. The bank has to get the funds back to the IRS and the IRS has to issue a check. It can happen much quicker but give it at least that long before you call.

Did you file yet? You can only change the refund method or account number before you file. If you already filed it is too late. To change your account number or how to get your refund or pay the fees go through the File tab again.

If the bank rejects your deposit the IRS will mail a check to the address on your return.

I filed and am expecting a state and federal refunds. 24hours later, looking over my files I realized both state and federal returns have an inactive checking account filed. What will happen now, do I have a recourse over the matter?

If the bank rejects your deposit the IRS or state will mail a check to the address on your return.
