Yep. Its now being rejected when at first there was no problem. Of course there is no way of knowing because they dont notify you ...just take the
from you. when I went to amend ...it stops you from e file but takes the EIN ...how is that possible?

Why will it take the incorrect number when you print to mail ?

Because the IRS will check that number when you attach the W-2 to the return. When you efile it they check the number before they accept the return. This is efficient because if you mail in the return and the number is not correct or valid then they will mail you back your unprocessed return which adds weeks to your processing time. When you efile you have notice of the issue within a day.

As mentioned below ... you cannot amend a return that has never been accepted and processed so undo the amendment and make the correction. If you did enter the EIN correctly from the W-2 then ask the employer if the number is correct or if they received the EIN in 2017. If it is incorrect get the correct number and try again. If it is a new number your only option is to mail in the return.

Unamend instructions : <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/6127353">https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/6127353</a>

You do not amend (Form 1040X) to fix a rejection. You just make the correction, and resubmit the efile.

It is saying that the EIN does not match what is on file with the IRS for that employer. So, unless you made a typo and can successfully correct it; you will have to print, sign and file by mail.

Be sure to enter the employer name exactly as it appears on the W-2. Do not abbreviate or use a nickname.

Note ... the name can be completely wrong but pass if the number is correct ... for instance we have used "OPM" instead of Office of Personal Management on W-2s for more than 20 years without a single rejection.
