The mailing address to mail your Federal return depends on the state you live in, the tax form you are filing, and if you are making a payment, go to the following website click on your State to get the IRS mailing address you need (look across from the form you are filing for the address):

It depends on if you are paying or not.

For your federal returns, if you are not enclosing a payment mail to:

For your NC state returns if you are expecting a refund mail to:

The IRS has offices across the country to handle different situations with your taxes. While each state has local IRS offices, they don't handle completed returns in all states. The 1040, without a payment, goes to Kansas City, Missouri, and with a payment, is sent to Kentucky.

No. You mail the state tax return to the address for your state. If you are mailing the federal tax return you mail the federal tax return to the address for the IRS.
