Black, gray or red numbers mean that you owe taxes to the government. And green means refund.

But you should see Federal Refund or State Refund at the top next to the numbers, if you are getting a refund. If you see Balance Due next to federal or state, that means you owe taxes.

What if the federal number is grey at the top but green at the bottom? And it doesn't say amount owed next to federal?

What product and page are you looking at? If using a mobile app, try signing in using a browser and you should see "Refund" or "Owed" at the top of the pages.

Did you end up getting your refund? Got the same thing on mine, larger refund numbers are grey, small refund number green. IRS say still processing
