There is no cost to file an extension on your taxes. Please review the following information on how to file an extension.

How do I file an extension?

An IRS extension gives you until October 16 to file, but it doesn't give you until October to pay your taxes. Those are still due by midnight, April 18.

Here's 5 different ways to file your federal extension:

Make a payment to the IRS and select Form 4868 as the payment type.
Sign in to TurboTax, then select MyTurboTax > Easy Extension.

On mobile devices, tap in the upper-left corner to access the MyTurboTax menu.

Search for extend inside your program, then click or tap the "Jump to extend" link.

Go directly to our Easy Extension website to e-file your extension.

Download and print Form 4868, fill it out, and mail it before midnight April 18. Complete mailing instructions are on the printout.
