getting for just filing a tax return claiming kids requires you to&amp;nbsp; have some earned income (wages or self
employment). Without earned income, you are not eligible for the
"refundable" Earned Income Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit.&lt;/A&gt;
&lt;/P&gt;There is no line item for "an amount for a old child being added". The tax benefits of a child are spread all over form 1040. Line 42 for the child's exemption (line 26 on 1040A), line 52 fot the child tax credit (line 35 of 1040A), line 66a for EIC (line 42a of 1040A) and line 67 for the Additional Child Tax credit (line 43 of 1040A).&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;</description>
