I wouldn't say it is wrong...just that the FAQ hasn't been updated to show the 2018 requirements.

Of course, it isn't really out now, so maybe they are working in the background to try to get it to work in an earlier OS X rev and do not really want to commit....but I suspect that would be a fruitless hope for any user.

I don't know where "xmasbaby0" gets his information, but as of today (11/26/2018) that 1899173 article that he references says NOTHING about TurboTax 2018 for Mac, only 2014-2017. I just inserted my newly-arrived "TurboTax Deluxe 2018" DVD into my older Mac running 10.6.8, and when I open "TurboTax Deluxe 2018.dmg" and then try to open "TurboTax Deluxe 2018.app" (the program itself) it displays an alert that clearly says that it requires Mac OS X 10.9 or later. If you want to find out the latest version of Mac OS to which your Mac can be upgraded, go to <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://www.everymac.com">www.everymac.com</a>, find your Mac's exact model, and then look for its "Maximum MacOS."

How are 2014 or 2017 relevant to this 2018 question? Why repeat that irrelevant 1899173 link, which I already mentioned and dismissed? Of course I have a newer Mac which I have used for more recent tax years, clearly implied by my mention of my "older Mac." The only reason I used my 10.6.8 computer today was to force the software to tell me what operating system would be required for the 2018 software, which was the question that dustymacaw asked, and thus the only issue that should be discussed here.

It's relevant to your os 10.6.8. Obviously if you can't...

It's relevant to your os 10.6.8. Obviously if you can't use 10.6.8 for 2014-2017 you won't be able to install 2018 on it. You said you put the DVD into your old Mac. You didn't say why or that you just wanted to see what would happen.

NO new Mac software developed using Apples software development tool set will support Apple OS's earlier than OSX 10,12. That is an Apple discussion, not TurboTax.

TurboTax 2018 does NOT require OS X 10.12, and I just proved it: While I don’t have a 10.9 Mac lying around, I do have the ability to boot into 10.11.6, after which I was EASILY able to install, update, and run TurboTax 2018 from the same DVD that I just received:
- On installation and launch, it displays this alert: “You can continue to use TurboTax on your Mac for this year. However, you'll need to update the operating system that's currently on your Mac for TurboTax 2018. Please get macOS Sierra (version 10.12) or above when you can.” That phrasing is a little self-contradictory, but it didn't bother me.
- I clicked the "Continue" button.
- I clicked to agree to the license terms.
- I clicked to permit an update, and watched the “Updating TurboTax 2018” window download the 279.4mb update and then relaunch.
- And then I landed in the main TurboTax 2018 window, with an “Untitled” tax return ready to start (“Hi, Welcome to TurboTax” and the “Begin” button ready to be clicked). A “No Tax Form Updates at This Time” alert also appeared.
- I Quit and relaunched, same result.

Thus, TurboTax 2018 runs under 10.11, and does NOT require 10.12, despite that page that @macuser_22 posted, and based on my earlier evidence, it probably works under 10.9 as well. So, I would encourage anyone currently using Mac OS X 10.9 or later to simply try TurboTax 2018 as is, and I’ll bet that (aside from getting the alert above), it will work just fine.

@macuser_22: What am I trying to prove? That you can't believe everything you read, that your rigid belief in the way software works is flawed (are you on the TurboTax software development team? Have you actually tested 2018 on an older Mac OS like I just did?), and that fact-based answers to questions like the one that @dustymacaw posted are the only reason to post a comment here.

Just because the system requirements say "OSX 10.12 or later" does not mean that it will not run in earlier systems, just that there is no guarantee that it will be accurate or continue to run after updates. What systems 2018 TurboTax will run in depends on what Apple development toots support and the Apple tools only support 10.12 or later. That does not mean that it will not run in earlier systems, just that it is not supported.

The post that dustymacaw made was a month ago before TT 2018 was even released so at that time it was just speculation and what was answered was the information available at that time.

BTW if you do not know, this is a user-to-user forum for tax discussion between TurboTax users and not TurboTax support. We are all just other TurboTax users.
