      <description>&lt;P&gt;You would have to check with social services in your state.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;To claim your son as a dependent, your son must live with you more than half the year. &amp;nbsp;If your GF told social services she lives alone, to better qualify for assistance, that could certainly be a problem if you claimed him as a dependent. &amp;nbsp;The IRS will not share your tax return with the state social services but the state tax department might.&lt;/P&gt;</description>
