I didn't ask about Adjusted Gross Income. That's done on every return. Everything is the same as last year. Why do I have to upgrade this year?

Additional Income and Adjustments to Income is Schedule 1...

Additional Income and Adjustments to Income is Schedule 1, which is a new form for 2018. The total of Schedule 1 will be included on line 7 of the 1040 form.

The 1040 form was completely revised in 2018. The form is now shorter and much of the information that used to be reported on it is now on up to six different schedules (Schedules 1 to 6). Schedule 1 additional income includes capital gains,
unemployment compensation, prizes/awards, or gambling winnings. The
adjustments to income on Schedule 1 are for student loan interest,
self-employment taxes, educator expenses, self-employed retirement or health
insurance deductions, and IRA deductions. Therefore, if you have any of these items that need to be included on your tax return, you will need to upgrade to have Schedule 1 included on your tax return.

Here is a link to
the copy of the Schedule 1 form: IRS 2018 Schedule 1 Form
