topic PIN # in Get your taxes done using TurboTax

I submitted my taxes yesterday evening and never got the text that the forms were rejected due to my PIN #. Notification was via email after 8pm, when I was asleep. I submitted my forms right around 6pm. I entered 15108 and it never asked for the correction this evening when I corrected my error highlighted - the adjusted gross income from 2024. Is this going to reject my tax forms again this evening after I fall asleep?

Are you able to assist and email me the PIN # I used in 2024? I think it may have been 11179.

the rejection is likely referring to the IRS Identity Protection PIN which is 6 digits. The 5-digit PIN you assign for e-file is something you choose, it doesn't have to match anything.

it'll probably reject again from what you're describing. to get your 6-digit IP PIN go to your account at irs.gov. You enter it in Turbotax under Other Tax Situations / Other Return Info. IRS issues a new PIN every calendar year for any filing activity regardless of tax year.

@ AREISER

Without more info we're having to guess a bit here. Unless it specifically said "missing or incorrect IP PIN" this rejection is most likely due to the 2024 AGI. If you provide the exact error code and message, we won't have to guess. Like @ baldietax said, the 5-digit signing PIN can be anything. You don't have to have the one from last year. While a 6-digit IP PIN would indeed work to overcome an AGI issue (since it is also a verifier), getting one might be more work than necessary.

If it IS an AGI rejection, and if rejected when using the actual 2024 AGI from your original 2024 Form 1040, Line 11, then instead try using a 2024 AGI of 0.

Also, is this a joint return or a single taxpayer? If a joint return, both taxpayers use the same total AGI from 2024. If it is a joint return, be sure who the rejection is for. Again, if you provide the rejection error code or message, that will be helpful and might result in more specific advice.
