My 2025 Federal tax was 25000. I had paid far too much quarterly estimates. I had the refund applied to 2026 taxes which was more than 25000. Yet it printed1040 ES vouchers of 6000 each (four vouchers). Pretty sure that is wrong. AND I had to do a manual change to form 1040 to input the "apply to 2026". Not like prior years.

Thanks

The Form 1040-ES are for you to use if you wish. They are not required and the IRS does not receive those forms unless you mail them.

To add, change or delete a current year federal tax refund to next year's taxes before you file your tax return -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Other Tax Situations
Under Additional Tax Payments
On Apply Refund to Next Year, click on the start or update button

The amount applied to next years taxes will be shown on Form 1040 Line 36

Make sure you look at line 36 on your 2025 1040 before filing. It may be that your overpayment is not showing as being applied to next year (2026).
