Rejection code IND-996 indicates that a Dependent or Qualifying Person's Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) is missing, incorrect, or invalid on your tax return. To fix this, locate the correct 6-digit IP PIN from the CP01A letter sent by the IRS

IRS website to retrieve an IP PIN - https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/retrieve-your-ip-pin

To enter, edit or delete a 6 digit IP PIN

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Other Tax Situations
Scroll down to Other Return Info
On Identity Protection PIN, click the start button
