My employer processed our W-2s with their regular payroll provider. Behind the scenes however, they were trying to launch a replacement payroll provider, whom erroneously reported wages and filed W-2's. That payroll provider did a reversal and issued W-2Cs showing zero wages to correct the issue. But what about doing your taxes?

These are the W-2's that were issued

1. Correct one from provider #1 (shows highest amount of wages)

2. Incorrect one from provider #2 (shows a lower total amount of wages as it was a partial year that got reported)

3. W-2C from provider #2 showing zero wages as a result of the reversal

Questions:

1. If you didn't yet complete your taxes, is it ok to just use the W-2 that is correct from the original provider? And not worry about the W-2c because it shows zero wages? Or will you need to file an amendment even though you used the correct one.

2. If you did already do your taxes, do you file an amendment? And report the W-2c with zero wages? Or file an amendment using the correct W-2?
