QCD is entered properly on 4b, but turbotax also included the amount in my itemized deductions. I cannot find a place to eliminate the charitablle donation portion, as it is not on the worksheet for charitable donations, but it is included in the total. I cannot file until this is resolved and I cannot find where to fix it on forms or step-by-step.

4b of what form and what Turbotax version?

in the desktop deluxe 1040 there is no box 4b in either forms mode or interview mode for 1099-R. however, different versions of TurboTax might work differently

Line 4a, b and c are on my 1040. I have Windows version desktop. 4A IRA distribution b is taxable amount and c qcd is checked. That is all correct. However, when TurboTax calculates my total itemized deductions. They are including my qcd in that amount and I don't know how to get rid of it.

You reported the QCD when you entered the 1099-R from the custodian of your IRA, right? You don't report the QCD in the Donations section like winds up on Schedule A.

Is this how you entered your QCD - yes on the 1099-R and no on Schedule A?

Note: on the 1099-R, you first enter the 1099-R, then on the "Do any of these situations apply to you?", be sure to check the box for "I transferred all or part of this money directly to charity". (Note: you must be at least 70 1/2 to see this option). On the next screen, you will be asked how much of the 1099-R distribution was transferred trustee to trustee to the charity.

If so, then please tell me (if you can), on what line on Schedule A this QCD amount appear (lines 11-14)? Also, if you can see the Charitable Org worksheet for this charity, are there any numbers on it?

yes, I entered the qcd properly. Under my charitable contributions, it is not listed. But when the calculation for itemized deductions shows up, that amount is included. I cannot find any place where it is in the form or step by step to delete it. I checked and it is listed on line 11 on schedule A. Can I just delete it on Schedule A on the form to correct this?

I tried to delete it on Schedule A line 11 and it won't let me. It is not listed anywhere on the charitable donation worksheets. I do have another charitable donation of household goods on those worksheets, but that has nothing to do with the qcd.

The QCD reported on the IRS form 1099-R should be reported on line 4a of the IRS form 1040.

If you are seeing the charitable donation reported on Schedule A, consider removing the IRS form 1099-R and re-entering.

Remove the IRS form 1099-R by clicking the trashcan to the right of the entry at the screen Your 1099-R summary.

Thanks very much. After over 6 hours of talking to TurboTax, they sent me a new edition and I deleted my 1099r and reconstructed my return. Yes, you are right it worked.
