So.... Here's what happened. After completing my Fed, Md, and WV returns I eFiled my Fed and Maryland returns with no issues. When I started to eFile my WV return, TT took my $25 payment, and then when I hit the eFile button TT immediately told me it couldn't eFile the WV return, because of the content of my WV return (e.g., I had checked the WV box that indicated I had an NRSR Home Sale Transaction).

So TT took my $25 and then essentially said "ooops, we can't file this return"... with no way to get a refund of the $25 filing fee. I've tried following the various online suggestions on how to get a refund, but none of then worked in this case. So, I'm going to try disputing the credit card charge for "failure to provided the agreed upon service".

When e-filing a state return...

1) Will TT forward all the state-required federal forms along with state forms - I'm specifically wondering about federal forms schedule D and federal form 8949/4797 (sales and distribution of capital assets) ?

2) How can I tell what federal forms TT actually sent to the state?

3) If the state "accepts" my return after e-filing, does that imply the state got all the forms they were looking for?

Yes, I can assure you that TurboTax transmits the required federal forms with the state e-file transmission.

When the state accepts your return, it is not indicating that it received all the forms, because the state doesn't know what forms are being filed. It means there was no problem with what was transmitted. That said, you couldn't e-file a state return if there was no federal return attached.

You can check what forms are transmitted by viewing a PDF of your state tax return. From the Print Center, select "All official forms required for filing".

Thank you, DavidD66...

Unfortunately, when I look at the PDF for the state (WV) return... it does not include several fed forms that I'm reasonably sure the state requires. It only shows/includes the WV state forms. That's what led me to ask my question here.

Well, all I can tell you is that I am 99% certain that all the federal forms required are transmitted to the states (including WV) when the state return is e-filed using TurboTax. The only reason I don't say 100% is because I can't prove it to you. You'll just have to have a little faith. If for some reason West Virginia doesn't get all the forms required, they will let you know and you have to mail them copies. Alternatively, you can choose to file your WV state return by mailing it.

You can still file the WV return by mail. The completed WV return should be available as a pdf for you to submit to the state. You can also print any of the federal forms necessary to include with the state return.

Thank you, Robert...

Yes. I understand that I can print and file my return (which is what I did). My concern is that TT indicates my return can't be filed online but still took my $25 and offers no option for a refund.

Even more interesting, is that each time I now open my return, TT reminds me me to eFile even though it won't allow it to be eFiled.
