If you are on the desktop version, select new tax return from File -top left in the black bar.

Your question is posting from online TurboTax but you are asking about something you can do when you use the desktop download. Which software are you actually using? With desktop you get five federal e-files along with the associated state returns. With online TurboTax you get one return per fee, and pay separate fees for federal and state returns.

We see people get confused and they keep logging in to online software which will require them to pay at the end. You need to use the desktop software. One way to tell if you are using the right software---your tool bar. Online software has the toolbar in a black vertical column on the left side of the screen. Desktop software has the tools up on the top of your TT screen.

If you are using the Online version. Online is only good for 1 return per account. Don’t use your account or you will overwrite your return and it will be gone. And you have to pay for each account separately so it might get expensive.

You can start another return in TurboTax Online by:

Logging out if you are in your account
Choose what TurboTax Online product you want to use for the second return
Create your account screen
Set up a new login for the second return
Start working on the new return
