Invalid SOS File No. California Form 568

California form 568 is not accepting the Secretary of State File number issued in 2025. It could be due to the number starting with B, although its still 12 digits. Has there been a solution for this, either on the Turbo Tax website or desktop software? I'm using the website version.

If it hasn't been resolved, how do I print only Form 568 and e-file the rest of the state return?

Form 568 can either be e-filed or mailed to:

Franchise Tax Board

PO Box 942857

Sacramento, CA 94257-0501

To print a form in TurboTax Online, sign in, open your return, and navigate to Tax Tools > Print Center in the left menu. Select "Print, save, or preview this year's return," choose the desired forms, and select View or Print Forms. You must pay for your return or register (if free) before printing.

This is the first time I've heard of an issue with the number starting with "B", or with the form being entered in TurboTax Online instead of Desktop. Can you describe the steps you took to enter the form in TurboTax Online?

Form 568 must be filed by every LLC that is not taxable as a corporation if any of the following apply:

The LLC is doing business in California.
The LLC is organized in California.
The LLC is organized in another state or foreign country, but registered with the California SOS.
The LLC has income from California sources.

Thank you for the response. I have 2 single member LLCs on the form. One of the two LLCs has been established for quite some time. The other one was created in 2025 with the newly generated entity numbers starting with B. Turbo Tax specifically asks for numbers and needs to be updated to accommodate the new CA entity numbers containing the letter B. I have been filing with Turbo Tax for years and haven't had issues with the other LLC.

SOS Biz file website excerpt below:

Newly registered Corporations, Limited Liability Companies (LLC), and Limited Partnerships (LP) will now utilize a 12-character ID that starts with the letter “B”. Entities, with a preestablished entity number, will continue to use the same number even when the 12-character ID is implemented.

In any case, the invalid SOS # error is the only issue and I doubt it will be fixed before the taxes are due. I have seen some other threads in the community with a similar issue and no solid solution.

Question 1: Do I print page 1, 2 and 3 of form 568 and mail it to the state? I don't see a voucher for this form.

Question 2: How do I file the rest of it? Is Turbo Tax going to let me efile the rest after printing the form 568 or do I need to remove it somehow?

You don't need to print and mail, you can e-file your return.

A California Secretary of State (SOS) file number is a minimum of 7 digits long, a maximum of 12 digits long, and can only contain the numbers 0-9. If the SOS number contains a letter (such as "B") that letter should NOT be entered - only enter the numbers.

Thank you for the response, Sharon. I removed the B and the software let me proceed without errors.

I submitted the returns but I still don't think the entity number would be considered correct. CA SOS website specifically mentions the new entity numbers including Bs starting December 2025. I included the FEIN on the return in case FTB has any issues.

Either Turbo Tax needs to fix this issue or get confirmation from FTB that removal of B is acceptable to provide clarity to the customers.

Hi,

I have the same issue with California SOS. I removed the B but still can't move forward for filing. Could you please advise how to fix and file ?
