Need help, online problem:

Even I delete my form 5695, they still report error, keep let me filing: Cost of enabling property must have a vaule when QMID is entered:

I try to report my insulation(only material), it also ask QMID: I installed by myself, but material rockwool is not on the list, but the company say I can report file for tax get some refund.

online says search and fil a qmid, which I need. but keep asking.

starnge thing is even I delete the return for energy refund, it still keep asking.

i can't start over , cause I already paid.

I'm also having this issue. I've deleted both 5695 forms, cleared my cache and tried again. I'm trying to claim new windows and doors improvement costs for joint occupants.

After entering the cost of the windows/doors. I'm asked, "Did you have any of these residential energy property costs in 2025?", I answer no (as windows/doors are not on this list). The next question is "Improvements or replacements installed for enabling property". I am forced to select something to continue, so I select "Windows and skylights". I leave the QMID and cost fields under "Enter information about panelboards, subpanelboards, branch circuits, or feeders." blank.

During the federal review stage, I get the error: "Form 5695: Cost of enabling property must have a value when any enabled property code (A-G) is selected.". If I go back and fill in the QMID and cost fields on that previously mentioned step (about panelboards, etc), I get a new error: "Form 5695: Cost of enabling property should not have a value since the energy property was not installed by you in connection with a home in the United States.". I have no idea how to resolve this bug.

Pulling my hair out trying to get this to work. I'm starting to regret self-filing with Turbotax.

This loop appears to have been a known issue within the TurboTax program. The developers have been working to clear up known issues as quickly as possible this tax season and the issues with form 5695 should have been cleared up by the update to the program released Thursday February 27th. Please re-start your computer and make certain that your software is updated and hopefully your issue is cleared up.

Not all instances have been resolved for form 5695. If you are claiming a credit for an external door, you will need to wait until March 13 and try filing again.

@CatinaT1 thanks for the update, where can we follow along to see this information for ourselves? This is the only acknowledgement of an issue I've received from TurboTax, and the rumor mill of user reports via an online forum is not a practical way to confidently file tax returns. Thanks.

It's March 25 and I'm still not able to file because of this bug. I've deleted the forms again and now at the review stage, I'm getting an error for the question "Did you install improvements or replacements for enabling property?" - "must be checked when any enabled property code (A-G) is selected."

Under "Improvements or replacements installed for enabling property", I've selected "Windows and skylights" because that's the only one I've upgraded (and it forces me to select one), but it's also complaining that I ned to enter a value for "Total cost you paid for all materials", even though it's under the section about panelboards, subpanelboards, branch circuits, or feeders, which I have not installed.

This lack of support is driving me crazy. I don't know what to do here aside from abandoning Turbotax and starting over somewhere else.

In the enabling property section for Form 5695, try entering the same QMID code as your other equipment, with a value of $0. If you're using TurboTax Online, clear your Cache and Cookies first.

Your solution did not fix the problem. I continue to get the very same error message. TT is NOT recognizing that my home is in the US. PLEASE FIX THIS FORM!!

TurboTax sometimes fails to "bridge" the address from your 1040 to Form 5695.

Go to Federal > Deductions & Credits > Home Energy Improvements.
Look for a screen that asks for the Address where the improvements were made.
Even if it looks correct, delete the address entirely and re-type it. * Ensure you select "Main Home" and "Yes, this home is in the United States" again.
Close your return and open it to see if the change was made.

Hello,

This is still NOT working for me either.... I tried to redo the form multiple times, and everytime it fails to acknowledge the "No" to the question about the "cost of enabling property". It forces me to enter a QMID and a value even though all my costs were included in the heat pump original cost... What should I do??

Yes, enter the QMID code and $0 if your costs were already entered. Unfortunately, this is the workaround to get the Form 5695 Efiled and accepted by the IRS.

So, it's the 11th of April of 2026 and this issue/BUG, is still in the online and Desktop versions. It's getting tight for filing!
